Week 01

The invisible grid

Why every layout you admire is sitting on a structure you cannot see. Building one, breaking one, and knowing which you are doing.

Week 01

(The idea)

(The idea)

A grid you cannot articulate is not a grid. It is a habit.

(What you make)

A rebuilt layout with its grid documented, plus one deliberate break you can justify.

What we cover

Columns are the easy part. This week is about the structure underneath them: baseline rhythm, optical alignment versus mathematical alignment, and why a layout can sit perfectly on a grid and still feel wrong.

The work

We rebuild an existing layout of your choosing on an explicit grid, then break the grid once, on purpose, and defend the break.
